One of my biggest drivers for both wanting to be a Labour MP and for having founded Labour: Women in Tech was to create a better world for the next generation. I want a better world for my daughter - and don’t all parents that try their best want that for their children? I am also hugely mindful that the way my daughter and her friends see the world and engage with it differs to mine in many ways- especially when it comes to their use of data and technology. And it’s our responsibility to ensure we don’t have rose tinted glasses and are tricked by nostalgia assuming we ‘had it better in our day’, but rather look forward to a new world that awaits the generations that follow us. To move the needle on the fight against gender inequality in the tech ecosystem, unique and bespoke strategy is required to ensure our women are supported and empowered for career growth and advancement.
