📣 Important Announcement 📣 In response to the unfortunate shutting down of CodeClan, we, at Google Developer Groups GDG Glasgow and GDG Edinburgh, along with Women Techmakers Scotland, understand the uncertainty and difficulties many of you are experiencing. We appreciate your dedication and hard work towards your education and deeply believe that now, more than ever, it's vital for the Scottish Tech Community to band together and support each other. Rest assured, we're standing with you 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿💙 We're proud to count two CodeClan alumni among our members, both of whom have gone on to forge successful careers as Software Engineers. Their journeys are a testament to the potential that lies ahead for each of you. It's with great enthusiasm that we announce our initiative to support all students affected by this unforeseen event. While we acknowledge that replicating the entire curriculum is not feasible, we plan to deliver a range of individual workshops that will tackle significant topics from the syllabus, along with issuing participation certificates upon completion. These online workshops are completely free and while this initiative was sparked by the situation faced by CodeClan students, we welcome participation from everyone, not solely those from CodeClan. As I think about fostering safe, inclusive environments, for our teams, our faculty, our industries, and our conference attendees, I think about the best Code of Conduct I've ever seen, which is from Lesbians Who Tech & Allies. I find their position on allyship (quoted below) particularly important and impactful, especially within my network, as a lot of us are in relatively privileged or powerful positions, which comes with, I believe, a certain obligation. Allyship is about actively reframing knowledge and actively changing power dynamics. Please engage these practices: 💡Listen and learn, even when you feel confused or uncomfortable. 📚 Educate yourself instead of asking others to educate you. 🙌 Don’t take credit for ideas originated by people on the front lines. 👀 Act like an ally when no one is watching. 🎁 Acknowledge your privilege. 💪 Be resilient. 💰 Contribute resources: Time.
