The department is pleased to announce the staff service awardees for Spring 2021: Kate Atchison and Maria Johnson.

Assistant Director of MCWIC and I4C, Kate Atchison received the award in recognition of her extensive contributions to our current and future students, including work on the Break Through Tech program, management of the departmental student groups, the expansion of the undergraduate tutoring program & NCWIT Learning Circles, and the extension of the K-12 summer programs.

Director of Corporate Partnership Development, Maria Johnson received the award in recognition of her work in developing and expanding the department's relationships with corporate partners, facilitating student group interactions with the corporate community, supporting underrepresented minorities in the department, and in general for facilitating a collaborative and inclusive environment.

“Maria and Kate are pillars of our community in Computer Science. They are working tirelessly to foster a diverse and inclusive environment for all, and their efforts have made a positive impact on countless students in our programs. I couldn’t be prouder of their work,” said Matthias Zwicker, Interim Chair of the Department of Computer Science.

The department Staff Awards program aims to promote service of the highest caliber to the Department. The award committee was chaired by Professor James A. Reggia.
