A Bonus Day in February means a Bonus Day of CTE Month! A big part of Career and Technical Education are CTSOs (Career and Technical Student Organizations) that give students leadership experience and opportunities to apply their classroom knowledge. As a current FCCLA Advisor and a proud FFA Alumni member, I am always looking for ways to encourage students to join CTSOs or other student organizations.
As the last part of my master's degree program last fall, I took a closer look at the student perspective of the relationship between co-curricular involvement & their high school experience.
In my research project, I found that students involved in co-curricular organizations:
⭐ Were more likely to feel like they were an important part of their school community
⭐ Felt supported by teachers and school staff
⭐ Agreed that they looked forward to parts of their high school experience
⭐ Reported a greater sense of belonging in school
⭐ Noted positive impacts of their involvement including many responses of gaining friends and social skills, making them happier, providing personal development and adding positive school experiences
.

To celebrate CTE Month:
I'm curious, how have CTSOs or other co-curricular organizations impacted you?
