Manaswi Saha is a PhD student in the Department of Computer Science at University of Maryland, College Park (UMD). She is part of the Makeability Lab, a lablet of the Human Computer Interaction Lab (HCIL), working with Prof. Jon Froehlich. Her research focuses on developing technology to solve high-value social problems. She is currently working in the area of accessibility–developing interfaces for mapping physical world accessibility to aid in the development of navigation based interfaces for mobility impaired users, and sustainability–creating interactive technology for helping novice smartphone users to perform thermographic energy auditing. Both research problems would have an enormous impact in improving the built environment in cities. Prior to UMD, she worked as a Research Associate in the Mobile and Ubiquitous Computing group at IIIT-Delhi, India. Her work focused on smart homes – improving personal energy monitoring for home owners. She is also an advocate for promoting diversity and inclusion, especially engaging more women in Computer Science. She was awarded the ACM-W Scholarship for attending CHI 2016, a top tier conference in the field of Human Computer Interaction (HCI).
