Application Deadlines
Applications to attend the 2025 BEYA STEM Conference Career Fair in Baltimore February 14-15 are open now.
To help break down barriers that prevent underrepresented groups in technology from attending leading conferences, the Iribe Initiative for Inclusion and Diversity in Computing (I4C) offers University of Maryland students scholarships to attend select identity-based conferences in the tech space. Conference dates, eligibility and other logistical details are in the application.
Fall conferences: Richard Tapia Celebration, Grace Hopper Celebration, oSTEM, SACNAS, AfroTech and Techsgiving Summit
Spring conferences: BEYA STEM and CAPWIC

All scholarships include:
- Conference registration fee (we provide you with information to register)
- Conference T-shirt
- Invitation to the fall and spring semester Diversity in Tech Celebrations
- Networking events
In-person scholarships also include:
- The Department of Computer Science will handle airfare for out-of-state conferences or ride-share reimbursement for local conferences. Once your scholarship is confirmed, you will receive guidance on travel arrangements.
- Hotel accommodations (3-4 people per room)
- Ground transportation (airport/hotel-hotel/airport)
- UMD undergraduate and graduate students in computing majors/minors
- Preference given to undergraduate juniors and seniors
- Graduate students must be in one of the following programs:
- Master’s or Ph.D. program in the Department of Computer Science
- Master’s or Ph.D. program in the College of Information
- Master’s program in the Science Academy
You will only be awarded one in-person conference scholarship per academic year. If you indicate multiple choices on your application, only one will be considered for award and others will not be taken into account. You will not be awarded more than two conference scholarships throughout your time at UMD.
You are not eligible to receive a diversity Conference Scholarship for the same conference throughout your time at UMD.
